Why train with us?

  • Low student to instructor ratios : 3 or 4 students per instructor both in the pool and ocean

  • Our retail store is located downtown.

  • Diving courses available all year-round. Private courses available.

  • We teach children 10 years and older.

  • Passionate team of Instructors and Divemasters who love to teach.

Our Technical Training Mindset :

Our first and foremost goal for our students is to create competent, safe, and knowledgeable divers who are truly capable of independently diving with a similarly-certified buddy, without the supervision or help of a guide.

We are generally very successful, and our alumni regularly dive together. However, understanding that to achieve this level of proficiency requires a huge amount of work, both on the part of the student and that of the instructor.

Our courses are charged per a day of training, and students earn a certification when the instructor feels they have fulfilled TDI/SDI standards and those of Diving Sports standards. The number of days listed for the courses below are bare minimums, assuming the student does everything right the first time. It's always good to plan on leaving time for an extra day or two on your course.

What is Included in the Course :

Diving Sports includes the price of tuition, the scheduled class dates and 2 days of diving, air fills, and certification fees. Students are responsible for their own equipment and enriched gas fills for the course. Manuals, eLearning, or both will be added on afterwards depending on student preference.

Equipment Requirements :

While not required, students are encouraged to use the configuration during their training that they would want to continue using during their technical education. This is a great opportunity to become more comfortable in Sidemount or to learn to use twinset (doubles) backmounted cylinders. Students will be required to provide their own personal gear, computer, and SMB, however cylinders, regulators and BCD's may be rented.

Who is this course for:

This course is for divers that are looking at understanding what the world of Technical Diving has to offer and the equipment required to execute a technical dive.

What You Will Learn:

Divers will learn the basics of what it means to be a technical diver. They will become more informed, safer and more controlled divers. There is much more to technical diving than a bunch of redundant gear. It's also to do with how you conduct yourself underwater and your overall level of awareness. This course will refine your buoyancy while building up your core skills for other technical courses.

Course Description:

Our main focus for this course is about introducing advanced propulsion techniques such as backfinning and helicopter turns. We will also be focussing on diving with twin tanks, either on backmount or sidemount configurations and the benefits of both.

We will spend one day in the classroom to go through how to plan dives properly and prepare for a longer dive. We will then spend 2 days in the ocean completing a minimum of 3-4 dives. All dives will be to a maximum depth of 21m/70ft. If more dives are required to meet the instructors standards we will plan more days in the ocean as needed. Additional training costs are $400 per day plus gas fills.

Course Prerequisites:

  • Advanced Diver Certified
  • 50 logged dives, at least 15 dives in cold water in a drysuit.

  • Graduates Receive:

  • Familiarization with the use of a redundant equipment setup
  • Exposure to in depth dive planning and gas management.
  • The opportunity to enroll in the Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures training.
  • We are doing our part to try and reduce plastic use, so all of our certifications will be digital. If students would prefer a physical certification card, then they may pay to have one at the time of certification.

    Commitment to Safety and Enjoyment

At Diving Sports we believe in making sure all our students receive the highest quality instruction and customer service. We are in the business of training, mentoring, and supporting students to become safe, skillful and confident divers. We begin by scheduling our courses with the number of classes it typically takes most students to master the knowledge and skills, then adapt and tailor our schedule to fit our individual student’s needs. Our instructors are open and honest about your progress during each part of the course. Students may need to schedule additional pool or ocean training dives prior to certification. This ensures our students complete their courses with all the skills and knowledge they need to be safe and enjoy their future dives and courses. When you take a course with Diving Sports, you are welcomed into a passionate and inclusive community of divers eager to support your diving journey well beyond the duration of your class.
